The North Carolina-based band Annuals have come out with another “dramatic,” but gentle song. Just like “Brother,” “Sore” starts with a very gentle intro with acoustic guitar and vocals. The song’s complex dynamics make it an adventurous song to listen to in a calm environment.
Acircular one third into the song the band kicks in. The surrounding sounds of the full band are a nice and dramatic intervention to the song; however, this doesn’t last long. The dramatic loudness of the band suddenly dies off and a calmer phase starts. The song then continues with unique dynamics and especial crescendos.
The song is part of a set of three songs that are on a split with a ban called Sunfold, which turns out is composed of the same people that compose annuals. The difference is that in Sunfold frontman Adam Baker backs down, and instead lead guitarist Kenny Florence becomes the frontman.
